The Office of Research is thrilled to be hiring a Human Resources Coordinator to join their growing team. This person will be working with a dynamic team of fiscal and grant specialists that handle in surplus of $20M in annual grant expenditures. This person is critical to the success of the research mission and we look forward to adding a new member to the team.
We’ll rely on you to advise departments on the best practices established by HR and to answer questions about HR policies and procedures. You’ll respond to human resources needs of the University’s colleges, departments, and administrative units by proactively carrying out a variety of day to day HR technician tasks and processes in the areas of recruitment and hiring as well as process current employee assignment changes.
To thrive in this environment, you should be customer service oriented, have strong interpersonal communication skills, with a willingness to learn and attend regular training. You should be able to complete error-free forms on deadline by using information from multiple sources. Responsibilities range from processing routine but detailed forms and paperwork to explaining HR processes to non-HR personnel. We are looking for someone with knowledge of or ability to learn human resources best practices. Knowledge of methods of organization, research, and problem solving. Ability to comprehend written material from multiple sources and interpret and apply university policies, rules, and regulations relating to human resources functions. Ability to exercise good judgment in complex situations, propose viable solutions to problems, and make responsible decisions. Ability to implement policy changes and explain processes and procedures to client group.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to organize and communicate facts and opinions with a focus on customer service. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups and to work collaboratively as a member of a team or team lead both in person and remotely. Ability to adapt to an evolving work environment. Ability to focus on routine but highly detailed forms with high attention to accuracy under regular deadlines.
Skilled in standard office software and platforms including word processing, mail merge, and spreadsheet use. Ability to learn a variety of electronic forms, applications and software suites (Microsoft Teams and Google Suite applications) for paperless processing and remote work.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year college coursework in human resources and two years of technical human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of progressively responsible training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage Alaska and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
